Fatal Crash on Hope Road Leaves Two Dead, Identities Pending DNA Confirmation

Two lives were lost in a fiery crash on Hope Road in St. Croix after a vehicle attempted to pass another car and collided with a wall near the Ocean Point Terminals; the victims remain unidentified pending DNA confirmation.

ST. CROIX — Two individuals are dead following a high-speed single-vehicle collision on Hope Road (Route 68) near the entrance of Ocean Point Terminals/Port Hamilton Refining and Transportation, according to the V.I. Police Department. The incident occurred around 8:15 p.m. on Saturday, July 5, and is now under investigation by the VIPD's Traffic Investigation Bureau.

According to preliminary findings, the vehicle involved had been traveling westbound when the driver attempted to pass another vehicle using the left shoulder. The maneuver ended in disaster when the car slammed head-on into a wall at the Ocean Point Administrative Building. Upon impact, the vehicle ignited and was soon engulfed in flames.

Due to the severity of the crash and subsequent fire, authorities have yet to identify the two occupants. The VIPD confirmed that the remains will require DNA verification and assistance from the victims' next of kin before any identifications can be made.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Traffic Investigation Bureau in the St. Croix District.
