I didn’t escape, I was released and abused upon recapture — Rabsatt

Kurt Rabsatt, the man accused of escaping police custody, has claimed that he did not escape but that an officer let him go free.

During his appearance before the Magistrate’s Court today, Rabsatt also claimed that the police abused him when they had recaptured him on Monday.

“Those guys choke me off until I blacked out. I was not resisting arrest. I had done lay down on the ground and they bend up my fingers and my hand. They push their feet in my back, and they choked me with a wire until I blacked out. I didn’t know where I was, and they wake me back up and do it again,” the accused man said to Magistrate Jack Husbands.

“I wasn’t resisting arrest and those guys beat me up and bust my head. My wrist is very swollen up to now. I have back pains from how they kneel down in my back and they put the dutty boots on my neck and on my head. They even threatened to taser me in my head if I move again. I have people who witness everything, even my mom,” Rabsatt continued.

The alleged escapee pleaded with the magistrate to offer him bail as he did not believe he would be safe in prison. He told Magistrate Husbands he had enemies in prison from the time he was there a few years ago. He said they had sent him death threats and he feared for his safety as the persons had already killed ‘a guy’ in jail before.

Magistrate Husbands said he acknowledged the severity of the allegations and while he does not wish for any harm to be done to Rabsatt, the nature of the offence for which he is accused means the court cannot grant him bail.

Rabsatt appeared before the Magistrate Court on two charges. He was charged for escaping lawful custody and burglary with intent to steal.
