Oct. 16: Schneider Hospital opens an expanded hemodialysis unit. The hospital currently provides treatment to 75 patients, and the expanded unit with 12 additional stations will enable the hospital to accommodate another 60.
Oct. 16: The 35th Legislature extends the V.I. Water and Power Authority state of emergency for 60 days.
Oct. 20: Virgin Islands native Rashawn Ross is inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Dave Matthews Band.
Oct. 21: V.I. native and Central High School 1983 valedictorian, Dr. Selwyn O. Rogers Jr., is among 100 physicians inducted into the National Academy of Medicine. Rogers, a trauma surgeon in Chicago, is chosen “for paradigm-shifting hospital-based violence interventions,” including his innovative medical-legal clinic, Recovery Legal Care, designed to address social drivers of violence and reduce gun violence repeat offenses.”
Oct. 25: Gordon C. Rhea is sworn in as V.I. attorney general.
Oct. 29: The V.I. Supreme Court rules that a law reorganizing the V.I. Water and Power Authority’s governing board is not unconstitutional, despite arguments by Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. that the Legislature illegally reduced his control over the board’s membership.
