Aruba and Suriname Strengthen Relations with New Memorandum of Understanding

Suriname and Aruba have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to deepen their bilateral cooperation and establish a foundation for collaboration in areas such as trade, tourism, education, energy, security, and migration.

The agreement was signed on Monday by Suriname’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business, and International Cooperation, along with Aruba’s Prime Minister Evelyna Wever-Croes. During his official visit to Aruba, President Chandrikapersad Chan Santokhi emphasized the historical ties between the two Dutch-speaking nations and their mutual intention to explore new economic, social, and cultural opportunities together. “Our shared history forms the basis for a joint future of friendship, brotherhood and mutual respect. This signing is a confirmation of our joint ambition to strengthen the ties between our countries and to offer our people new opportunities.”

He noted the importance of signing the document for future generations, especially in the areas of sustainable development, innovation and stimulating economic growth. Prime Minister Wever-Croes expressed her satisfaction with the step towards more intensive cooperation, sayng “with this signing, we are taking an important step to convert our historical ties into concrete opportunities. “We will further expand the cooperation in crucial areas such as trade, tourism, energy and education, which will lead to growth and prosperity for both our countries,” she said, underscoring the importance of the involvement of both governments and technical teams who have worked hard in recent months to shape this agreement.
