British tennis star ranked 295th in world completes stunning upset at Wimbledon

British tennis sensation Sonay Kartal clinched her first professional victory at Wimbledon on Monday by defeating Romania's 29th-seed Sorana Cirstea with a score of 3-6, 6-2, 6-0. The 22-year-old had never previously won a Tour-level match and was eliminated in the first round of SW19 in the last two editions.

However, this day will be etched in her memory as she stunned a seeded player to secure her spot in the second round, bagging a minimum prize money of £93,000. In other news, Britain's Lily Miyazaki celebrated her first ever Wimbledon win as she comfortably defeated Tamara Korpatsch, doubling her annual earnings within an hour.

The 28 year old wildcard is now set to face 14th-round seed Daria Kasatkina on Wednesday following her 6-2, 6-1 triumph. Tokyo-born Miyazaki commented: "It's (the prize money) huge. Obviously it helps with the travel, my training, some things like that.

"But to be honest, I wasn't really thinking about that when I was playing. I just really wanted to go out there and put in a good performance, see how I keep improving my level. Hopefully I can use that (money) to keep building my ranking, yeah, keep going forwards."
