BVI Premiere says sponsorship of Vybz Kartel concert will benefit economy

British Virgin Islands (BVI) Premier Dr. Natalio Wheatley has confidently stated that the government’s sponsorship of the Vybz Kartel concert will bring significant financial benefits to the territory.

He emphasized that the event is expected to generate substantial tax revenues, which will contribute to the local economy. By attracting visitors and promoting tourism, the concert is seen as a strategic investment that will help stimulate economic growth and support various public services in the BVI.

The Premier addressed concerns during a recent interview about the government’s controversial US$220,000 investment in the event, highlighting the potential for the concert to generate income by attracting tourists from nearby regions, including the United States Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. Wheatley stressed that entertainment tourism significantly boosts the economy and argued that events like the Vybz Kartel concert are investments with broader benefits.
