Caribbean Center for Boys & Girls nurturing futures, one child at a time

ST. CROIX — The Caribbean Center for Boys & Girls of the Virgin Islands has long been a cornerstone for youth development on St. Croix, going above and beyond to be more than just another after-school care program.

Founded in 1973, with locations in both Christiansted and Frederiksted, the nonprofit has impacted thousands of children and their families over the years. Its mission is reflected in its published motto, “Changing the world one child at a time.” It is precisely what unit directors of the nonprofit centers aim to do with both educational and feel-good, fun programs that open up a new world for every child that comes through their doors.

On Saturday, members of the Frederiksted group took part in a cleanup as part of their “111 Acts of Kindness.” Past and current members, their families and other good samaritans showed up to spruce up the building and the yard of the Estate Two Brothers location. Among the volunteers was Shalvia Cobb, who spent her 12th birthday raking leaves with her family as a way of giving back to the organization that has been there for her.
