CARICOM chair calls for increased vigilance amid mpox outbreak

Caribbean following the World Health Organization’s (WHO) declaration of the Mpox outbreak

Dickon Mitchell, Chair of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and Prime Minister of Grenada, has called for heightened vigilance across the Caribbean following the World Health Organization’s (WHO) declaration of the Mpox outbreak as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) on August 14, 2024.

Mitchell urged citizens to stay informed through updates from the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) and local health authorities. He highlighted the importance of recognizing and reporting unusual rashes or lesions, particularly for those who have traveled to affected regions, and seeking prompt medical attention if symptoms arise.
