Fire-EMS personnel quells Cruz Bay structure fire

ST. CROIX — The V.I. Fire and Emergency Medical Services extinguished a structure fire on Thursday evening in St. John.

Six firefighters, a pumper and a tanker were dispatched shortly after 7 p.m. to Iguana Point in the Great Cruz Bay area. The intensity of the fire prompted responders to request additional support. An extra pumper unit, tanker, ambulance and six more firefighters arrived to help extinguish the blaze.

A water hauler from B&C Transport was also called to the scene to provide firefighters with a “more substantial” water supply. According to a Fire-EMS press release, the fire was brought under control within 14 minutes and all hot spots were completely extinguished within 35 minutes. The press release, signed by Fire-EMS Acting Director Lisle Evelyn, noted the leadership of incident commander Lt. Doug Walters and commended the bravery and response of all firefighters and supporting teams, which included one off-duty firefighter.
