Government House says more tax refund checks are in the mail

Government House announced the release of more than $5.1 million in tax refunds Monday, but it’s unclear how many taxpayers are still waiting for checks.

Communications Director Richard Motta Jr. said during Monday’s press briefing that the amount covers refunds owed to 1,260 taxpayers who filed prior to June 27, 2022. The news comes after Government House made a similar announcement last week that $5 million in tax refunds was being released. Those refunds will be issued to 1,745 residents who filed income tax returns by May 19, 2022.

Each week, questions about tax refunds dominate the comment sections of Government House briefing videos posted to social media. But the cash-strapped government has long struggled to make timely refund payments, leaving taxpayers anxiously waiting for the money that they’re owed.
