CHRISTIANSTED — Governor Albert Bryan toured public school classrooms on St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. John on the first day of in-person classes Tuesday. Bryan inspected the Ricardo Richards Elementary School on St. Croix, the Julius E. Sprauve K-8 School on St. John and the Joseph Gomez Elementary School on St. Thomas. Government House said the “Virgin Islands Department of Education (did) everything that could be expected to make the schools safe for students’ return to the classrooms.”
“Today, as a territory, we are taking a bold but cautious step toward where we know our students need to be,” Government House spokesman Richard Motta said. “We need our students back in the classroom, and it is Governor Bryan’s goal to get them safely back in the classroom setting.”
Upon seeing the protective gear installed around desks for students in pre-K through 2nd grade classrooms around the territory, one Virgin Islands Free Press reader made this comment.
“Why don’t they have these for the high schools?” Dora Magras-Cerge said from St. Thomas.
