“Here locally, Election Day is designated as a legal holiday,” and all nonessential government offices will be closed to allow Virgin Islanders “to fully participate in this democratic process,” Motta said. Essential government workers are entitled to two hours off with pay to cast their vote, but must notify their supervisor. “Governor Bryan and the entire administration encourages every eligible Virgin Islander to make their voices heard by casting their ballots, not just here at home, but also in the diaspora, where the consequences of that election is all but so much more important, in my personal opinion,” Motta said.

Bryan has been in Georgia for the past week, and gave a keynote address at Morehouse College on Wednesday. Bryan did not appear at Monday’s briefing, but he was en route and “returning to the territory today,” Motta said. Veterans Day is Monday Nov. 11, and this year’s ceremonies will include special tributes to three distinguished veterans. The ceremony in Cruz Bay on St. John at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 10, will honor Henry A. Powell; the parade and ceremony on St. Thomas at 9 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11 will honor retired Superior Court Judge Verne A. Hodge; and the parade and ceremony starting at 3 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 11 in Frederiksted on St. Croix will honor Wilfred Tuitt, Motta said.
