Astriking portrait of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle taken after their split from the royal family in 2020 has been acquired by Britain's National Portrait Gallery this month, forming part of its permanent collection.
The gallery holds Britain's national collection of portraits spanning over 215,000 paintings and photographs. Many representations of members of the royal family throughout history feature in the collection, including images of Queen Elizabeth II, King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
The National Portrait Gallery holds a special link to Harry and Meghan's sister-in-law, Princess Kate, as she was made the institution's royal patron by Elizabeth in 2012. The patronage was announced as one of Kate's first roles after her marriage to Prince William in 2011. She has attended regular events at the institution's London home in recent years
