Documentation for USVI SNAP/CASH Benefit Recertification is due by Feb. 1, according to the V.I. Department of Human Services There is a simplified process to renew SNAP benefits similar to how beneficiaries applied for the program in the first place. The statutory requirement is outlined in Section 11(e)(4) of the Food and Nutrition Act which specifies, that to continue receiving SNAP benefits, each household must apply for recertification.
The Act requires State agencies, in this case, VIDHS, to provide each household with a notice of expiration of its certification before the start of the last month of the household’s certification period.
Recertification is required periodically to make sure that recipients are still eligible for SNAP benefits. Any changes to their situation, be it family or financial, must be reported to the U. S. Virgin Islands Department of Human Services SNAP Offices. DHS are urging all SNAP/CASH recipients to act promptly and submit the required documents to the SNAP Office as soon as possible to prevent any disruptions in their benefit access.
