Latest trial delayed for ex-CEO of Schneider hospital

Former Schneider Hospital CEO Rodney Miller Sr.’s latest trial date has been delayed, and the next status conference is set for Nov. 21.

Miller had been scheduled to go to trial in August, but it’s unlikely that will happen before 2025. The V.I. Superior Court recently uploaded a record of proceeding for a hearing that occurred in July, during which both the prosecution and defense asked Judge Kathleen Mackay to hold a status conference before scheduling a new trial date.

A motion to dismiss the criminal charges has been pending since February, and if the parties cannot reach a plea agreement, Mackay ordered prosecutors to respond to that motion, according to court records. The extraordinary case has dragged on since 2008, when Miller and two other hospital executives were charged with conspiring to embezzle about $3 million.

After an eight-week trial in 2011 that ended with a deadlocked jury, the men were retried over six weeks in 2019, and found guilty of a combined 44 criminal charges, including racketeering and embezzlement. The trio maintained their innocence and say that they were entitled to all of the money they received.
