Officials at St. Thomas Rescue Inc., the Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands, My Brother’s Workshop, and Humane Society of St. Thomas know that donations from the community go a long way in carrying out their respective missions.
They also know that there’s no better time to give than around the holidays, especially on GivingTuesday, the global giving movement that falls on Dec. 3 this year. Observed the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, the day counterbalances the consumerism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday “and redirects our focus to acts of kindness and charitable giving,” according to a statement from My Brother’s Workshop.
During GivingTuesday, corporate and individual donations are welcomed by the nonprofits, especially those serving the wider community. “Donations are the heartbeat of MBW and allow us to implement our mission of providing faith, hope, and purpose through mentoring, mental health counseling, education, paid job training and job placement to youth of the U.S. Virgin Islands,” reads a statement from MBW seeking donations. “It is due to your support that we can fund our vital programs, reach more individuals in need and work to create lasting positive change in the the community.”
