Flash flood warnings were issued across all New York City boroughs.
New York City is facing major flooding as heavy rain slams New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Connecticut.
Flash flood warnings have been issued in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, Staten Island and Long Island.
Brooklyn is submerged under 6 inches of rain while Central Park has recorded more than 5 inches of rainfall so far.
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency.
"If you are home, stay home," New York City Mayor Eric Adams said at a news conference Friday. "We could possibly see 8 inches of rain before the day is over."
Some New Yorkers have been rescued from flooded cars and basement apartments, but there have been no critical injuries or fatalities, officials said.
