Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Kyra Paul said she hopes the three-day OECS Building Code 2015 pilot Training of Trainers (ToT) Program for building professionals, which is meant to strengthen the capacity of the building sector, will establish a professional network and participants will put the information learnt into good use.
She was addressing the start of the workshop which got underway at the Roseau Fisheries Complex Conference Room on Wednesday.
The workshop is organized by the World Bank’s Caribbean Physical and Financial Resilience Technical Assistance Project in collaboration with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development and the Climate Resilience Execution Agency for Dominica (CREAD).
“I am hoping therefore that we are establishing a professional network coming out from the three-day workshop, that you would put the information into good use and incorporate it into the carrying out of your daily activities in relation to the promotion of your best construction practices and most importantly you will share it with those who are not present in this room today,” Dr. Paul said.
According to her, the program which is centered around building the capacity of building professionals is meant to develop and validate regional training strategies that could be applied throughout the Caribbean.
Dr. Paul stated further that a significant part of becoming resilient however, and of any housing revolution program is to ensure that, “we have the requisite skills and knowledge that are adaptive and will serve current and future generations.”
