Pearl B. Larsen PreK-8 School remains closed due to water line repairs

The Virgin Islands Department of Education is advising all parents, guardians, faculty, staff, and students of Pearl B. Larsen PreK-8 School that its Estate St. Peters campus will remain closed today, Monday, March 24, 2025, “as critical repairs to the school’s water system continue.

This action follows the early dismissal of students on Friday, March 21st, due to a broken water pipe that significantly impacted the school’s ability to maintain adequate water service for daily operations, according to VIDE.

“Immediate response and investigation by the Bureau of School Construction and Maintenance (BSCM) revealed the need for a more comprehensive solution beyond a simple repair, prompting a full upgrade of the water supply line that services the school’s campus,” VIDE said.

Over the weekend, BSCM personnel have been actively engaged in site assessments, procurement of necessary materials, and preparation for extensive repair work aimed at restoring consistent and safe access to water throughout the facility. The Department recognizes the disruption this presents for families and faculty and assures the public that restoring normal operations remains a top priority.

VIDE’s leadership, in collaboration with the school’s administrative team, is working diligently to explore all viable options to minimize interruptions to student learning. This includes the potential for a temporary transition to virtual learning should in-person instruction remain impacted beyond Monday. More detailed guidance regarding instructional continuity will be provided should that step become necessary.
