Rip current warning, small craft advisory and high surf advisory in effect

SAN JUAN — The combination of wind-driven seas and the long-period northerly swell will produce hazardous marine and coastal conditions during the next few days across the Atlantic waters, local Caribbean passages, northwest and northern coast of Puerto Rico, Culebra, Vieques, St. Thomas, and St. John.

Changes since yesterday: High Surf Advisory issued for Aguada and Rincón, High Risk of Rip Currents issued for Vieques. High Surf Advisories extended through 6 AM AST Thursday. 

Areas at Risk and Timing:

  • For marine hazards:

* Small Craft Advisories are in effect across the Atlantic waters and local Caribbean passages through at least 6 PM AST Thursday.

  • For coastal hazards:

* A High Surf Advisory is in effect along the northern coast of Puerto Rico, Culebra, St. Thomas, and St. John through 6 AM AST Thursday due to breaking waves up to 10 to 12 feet.

* There is a High Risk of Rip Currents along the northern coast of Puerto Rico, Culebra, Vieques, St. Thomas, and St. John, until at least 6 PM AST Thursday (for Vieques until 6 PM AST Wednesday).
