Savannah Lyons Anthony first play debuts in New York

“JFK”, a play written, produced and directed by St. Johnian Savannah Lyons Anthony, recently premiered at the Pageant Experimental Performance Space in Brooklyn, N.Y.

“I wrote this play as part of my application to grad school,” Lyons Anthony told The Daily News. “It’s a lot of different, disparate ideas, people meeting, their obsessions, and them interacting with each other.” “JFK” is a collage of Lyons Anthony’s writing — essays, rants, and quotes by writers she respects that forms itself into a play between three characters, each more annoying than the next.

“It’s a drama, with a noir vibe, and it’s absurd,” Lyons Anthony said. “It’s also funny, we had a dance number, it’s only one hour but it’s extremely wordy and dense.” The play explores blurred thresholds, presidential intrigue, hyper visibility, desire and obsession as a woman risks it all to be seen. “The main scenes are about vulnerability, to see and be seen, and some of the danger in that visibility,” Lyons Anthony added.
