Settlement Talks Signal Possible Resolution in Stacey Plaskett Lawsuit Tied to Epstein Allegations

A short letter sent to Judge Arun Subramanian on Thursday signals that attorneys representing Congressional Delegate Stacey Plaskett and the unnamed women who are suing her may soon be able to agree on a way to resolve the matter. The plaintiffs allege that deceased sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein’s criminal activities involved a broad network of co-conspirators, including many USVI government officials and staff.

The 2023 lawsuit against Delegate Plaskett initially included a host of codefendants, including the Government of the Virgin Islands itself, former governors John De Jongh and Kenneth Mapp, among others. However in March, the judge dismissed the claims against all the other named defendants, ordering Ms. Plaskett to face the allegations alone.

However, the one-paragraph communication to the presiding judge raised the possibility that a trial on the facts might be avoided. “We have discussed with opposing counsel and the parties believe that this case may be resolved shortly,” said Eric Breslin, Ms. Plaskett’s attorney.

If the parties are unable to reach an agreement by next Thursday, August 28, they would submit proposed dates for trial as directed by the judge.
