Seventeen (17) homes are currently being constructed in Canefield East as part of the government’s housing initiative.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit made the announcement during a site visit in Canefield East on Wednesday.

“We are in Canefield East; we are building some 17 homes,” he said. “The intention there is to certainly increase the numbers in a dramatic way.”

Skerrit continued, “As we [go] along, we will be having some internal discussions with the Ministry for Housing and the Parl Rep [Parliamentary Representative] for Canefield.’

He said further that there will be a playing field, basketball court, and a community centre.

“If you are going to have so many people here you must have the supporting services,” Skerrit stated.

He indicated that there is a massive demand for housing in the Mahaut constituency.

“We are looking at several locations, we are looking to acquire some lands in Checkhall, government has lands in Warner that we will also be building homes for Campbell and residents of Mahaut in particular and we will see commencement of this very soon,” Skerrit noted.
