Sing St. John and Quelbe Resurrection Band Collaborate for Two “One Love” Concerts April 11 and April 19

Coral Bay, get ready to dance this weekend. On Friday, Quelbe Resurrection will team up with the St. John Recovery Choir for the “One Love” spring concert from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Our Place in Coral Bay.

Quelbe Resurrection has generated a loyal following by performing traditional quelbe songs on modern instruments and also featuring music from other genres, including R&B, bossa nova, ballads, calypso, jazz, and pop. “You go out to hear reggae and soca, and usually that’s it,” said Carl Powell, one of the band’s founders. “But when you go to hear Quelbe Resurrection, you get a kallaloo.”

The Coral Bay concert is a teaser for an even bigger “One Love” show in Cruz Bay’s Frank Powell Park on Saturday, April 19.

That concert and dance party, which runs from 6 to 9:30 p.m., will include performances by The Echo People, Bamboula dancer Raven Phillips, Ocama Youth Choir, the Senior Singalong, and the St. John Recovery Choir. Local food and beverages will be available thanks to Chef Maxine and Ras Feba, Roti King, and Our Market Smoothies.
