St. Croix man charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing relative

KINGSHILL — One man was stabbed and another has been arrested in connection with an attempted first-degree murder incident, authorities said.

Khalid A. Richardson, 36, was also charged with possession of a dangerous weapon during a commission of a crime in connection with stabbing a relative, and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, the Virgin Islands Police Department said. The case began at 4:03 a.m. on Wednesday when the 911 Emergency Call Center received a report of a stabbing victim present at Juan F. Luis Hospital requesting medical attention.

The investigation into the matter revealed that the victim was stabbed by a relative. “Due to the severity of the victims’ internal injuries he was rushed into emergency surgery,” VIPD spokesperson Glen Dratte said in a prepared statement. Police, he said, later apprehended Richardson without incident. “Mr. Richardson was charged with first-degree attempted murder,” Dratte said. Police did not share details about what led to the stabbing or the charge of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.
