St. Vincent and the Grenadines braces for Hurricane Beryl

As Hurricane Beryl approaches, officials in St. Vincent and the Grenadines are calling for calm and responsibility among citizens. Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves emphasized the need for solidarity and caution in the face of the impending category 4 hurricane.

With a history of avoiding drastic measures like states of emergency or curfews during crises, Dr. Gonsalves trusts that the community will uphold law and order as the storm passes.

Leadership urges against criminal actions during crisis

The government’s plea for responsible behavior comes amid ongoing police investigations, including a recent homicide that marked the 25th murder in the current year, underscoring a stark rise in violent incidents.

Both the government and opposition have expressed concerns about potential opportunistic crimes due to the hurricane, which could lead to property damage and loss.

The opposition spokesperson on national security, St. Clair Leacock, highlighted the dual challenges of managing both natural disasters and heightened criminal activity.
