USVI swimmers earn 13 medals, set three records at PanAm Aquatics Championships

Swimmers from the U.S. Virgin Islands earned 13 medals — including a pair of gold medals — and set three territorial records over the weekend during the PanAm Aquatics Age Group Swimming Championships in Puerto Rico.

The PanAm Aquatics Championships were held Thursday through Sunday at the Natatorio de San Juan in San Juan, Puerto Rico, with 12 swimmers from the USVI participating. Both gold medals were earned by St. Thomas’ Zion John-Baptiste, who won both the 14-under boys 100-meter backstroke and 200-meter backstroke titles.

John-Baptiste, 14, won the 100 backstroke in 1 minute, 4.39 seconds; and the 200 backstroke in 2:23.14.

Meanwhile, St. Thomas’ Reagan Uszenski earned four medals — three silver and a bronze — and set three USVI age group records at the PanAm Aquatics Championships.
