V.I. government contracts come under scrutiny after public feud

An ugly, public feud is unfolding after former Sen. Janelle Sarauw posted on social media about the government’s contracts with Gov. Albert Bryan Jr.’s campaign manager, prompting a vitriolic response from local businessman Mac McClafferty.

Sarauw has been publicly posting information about John Engerman’s consulting firm, The Strategy Group, or TSG, and its contracts with and payments from the government.

“She spent all week attacking John Engerman, who happens to be our accountant on island, and he’s a good man. She’s attacking him and getting nasty and personal and everything else, and I just had enough,” McClafferty said in a phone call with The Daily News on Sunday. “Janelle Sarauw likes to be the arsonist and then cry victim of the fire, and that is a fact.”
