V.I. wish granters seeking fairy godparents to bring cheer to children

Wish granters in the Virgin Islands are seeking fellow fairy godparents to join their ranks due to dwindling numbers in the wake of the dual hurricanes in 2017, followed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Volunteers with the Virgin Islands Make-A-Wish Foundation, which is part of the Southern Florida chapter, work to bring smiles and cheers to local children with once-in-a-life dreams. Since Hurricane Irma, however, the group has mainly focused on supporting island-loving wishers from the Sunshine State.

Maria Ferreras, a volunteer with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, said the local group is ready to get back into full swing for the islands’ residents, and are presently conducting outreach in search of both volunteers and local wishes to fulfill.
