Correctional officer charged with murder of inmate in Antigua

A correctional officer has been charged with the murder of an inmate following an altercation in Antigua’s prison on April 28, 2024.

Dwight Peters from Ovals is accused of causing the death of 26-year-old Ricknaldo Isaac, sending shockwaves through the correctional system and raising serious questions about inmate safety. According to official reports, Isaac sustained life-threatening injuries during a confrontation with Peters.

The young inmate was immediately rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Medical examinations first revealed a severe spinal cord injury had left Isaac paralyzed from the waist down. As Isaac awaited surgical intervention, his health took a dire turn. Complications arose, including a potentially fatal pulmonary embolism.

Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, Isaac’s condition continued to deteriorate rapidly. Tragically, on May 11, 2024, just shy of two weeks after the initial altercation, Isaac succumbed to his injuries. The official cause of death was recorded as quadriplegia, a direct result of the spinal cord damage sustained during the prison incident.
