The case began at 8:40 p.m. Friday, “when Special Operations Bureau officers were at Oswald Harris Court placing another individual under arrest in reference to an unrelated matter,” according to the VIPD.

While officers were exiting the building with an arrestee, Curvin Thomas, who appeared to be intoxicated, attempted to obstruct the officers’ path by standing in the middle of the archway, police said.

Officers ordered Thomas to step back, but he ignored that directive, according to police.

Officers then placed Thomas under arrest and while being placed in handcuffs, he attempted to trip one of the officers by placing his legs between the officer’s legs, police said.
