POLICE INVESTIGATING AFTER MOTORIST STRUCK BY STRAY BULLET WHEN DRIVING BY PROJECT

CHRISTIANSTED — A motorist driving by a Richmond housing project was struck by a stray bullet minutes late Saturday night, authorities said.

Personnel from the Juan F. Luis Hospital & Medical Center reported a gunshot victim to the 911 Emergency Call Center at 11:34 p.m. Saturday, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

The male victim told police that he was driving with his friends west on the Northside Road, in the vicinity of the John F. Kennedy Terrance, when they heard several shots being fired, according to the VIPD.

“When they got to the Five Corners intersection, the driver realized that he was injured,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said. “He then switched seats with his friend who took him to the hospital, where he was treated for a gunshot wound to his right forearm.”
