Schneider Hospital Reports Second "Cybersecurity Incident" This Year

For the second time in 2024, Schneider Regional Medical Center faces a cybersecurity breach, prompting an investigation and system overhaul while public access to key services remains disrupted.

For the second time this year, the Schneider Regional Medical Center has announced a cybersecurity incident which is affecting the public's ability to access medical and billing records.  On Tuesday, SRMC said that it was responding to an incident “involving the detection of malware within its network on Sunday, December 1, 2024.” The nature of the malware – virus, spyware, ransomware or otherwise – was not disclosed.

The hospital says that it had “engaged leading cybersecurity experts and partnered with federal agencies” to address the issue. “A comprehensive investigation and system assessment are underway to strengthen the network and prevent future incidents,” SRMC promised, much as it had in July, when it was the victim of a ransomware attack that left systems crippled.
