St. Croix team wins first match at USA Cup tourney

Helenites Sports Club’s under-11 boys team picked up its first win Thursday at the USA Cup youth soccer tournament in Minnesota.

Helenites Sports Club’s under-11 boys team picked up its first win Thursday at the USA Cup youth soccer tournament in Minnesota. Meanwhile, the St. Croix club’s under-16 boys team picked up its second straight draw in its final group-play match of the tournament, which runs through Saturday at the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minn.

Helenites SC U-11 boys (1-2-3, five points), playing in the 11B Bronze’s Bracket B, won 6-2 over MapleBrook SC 13B Jr. Championship 1 (1-2-0, three points) in their group-play finale.

Midfielder Kavarnee Harris scored twice for Helenites SC, with four others – midfielders Rock Roberts and Jai Harris, defender DeMarco Howard Smith and forward Taariq Alexander – scoring one goal each.
