The well-loved tradition of Taste of Bethany is making a comeback after a nearly four-year hiatus and just in time for the 270th anniversary of Bethany Moravian Church.
The anniversary is next month, but this weekend church members are inviting St. John residents to take part in food, fun, and of course, a bit of scripture. The community is invited to join parishioners from 6 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 28, for the 2024 Taste of Bethany. The church has been hosting the event since 2015, but the COVID-19 pandemic forced a pause on the popular tradition.
According to Stacie B. January Denival, a spokesperson for the church, Bethany is known for providing delicious meals at church events, so by building on that legacy, a Taste of Bethany became a way to raise funds for the church. She said that Sunday’s meals will mostly be prepared by parishioners, but will also include dishes prepared by members of other churches on St. John, as well as individuals from the community. The planned menu includes saltfish and rice, seafood chowder, eggplant parmesan, cakes, tarts, tamarind juice, sorrel, and many more great options.
