Following a four-day holiday weekend in observance of Thanksgiving, lawmakers returned to their offices on Monday for two straight days of constituent work and meetings ahead of two public hearings scheduled for the week.
On Wednesday November 30th, the 34th Legislature’s Committee on Government Operations and Consumer Protection (GOCP) will meet at 10 a.m. in the Fritz E. Lawaetz Legislative Conference Room on St. Croix to consider three resolutions honoring prominent Virgin Islanders.
Bill No. 34-0057 - A resolution honoring and commending Jose Julio Martinez, better known as Papi Love for his outstanding contributions as a radio talk show host, educating and entertaining the people of the Virgin Islands.
Bill No. 34-0288 - A Resolution honoring and commending Command Sergeant Major Charles David, Retired, for his service to the Virgin Islands National Guard.
Bill No. 34-0293 - A Resolution honoring and commending the Reverend Dr. George E. Phillips for his invaluable contribution to the Gospel, ministry, and people of the Virgin Islands.
Previously, the GOCP Committee had expected to receive updates from the Office of Management Budget regarding its challenges, but that was removed from the agenda.
On Friday December 2nd, the Committee on Finance (COF) will meet at 9am on St. Croix to consider the following three measures:
Bill No. 34-0346 - An Act approving the Lease Agreement between the Government of the Virgin Islands and Twin City Cricket Association, Inc. for Rem. Parcel No. 23 Estate VICORP Land (f/k/a Upper Bethlehem and Fredensborg), King Quarter, St. Croix Virgin Islands for a cricket facility and other related activities.
Bill No. 34-0197 - An Act amending title 33 Virgin Islands Code, subtitle 1, part I, chapter 3, section 43, subsection (e) relating to the submittal of bills or invoices that separately state gross receipt taxes to account for the receipt and distribution of federal assistance to the Government of the Virgin Islands and related payments to its contractors.
Bill No. 34-0298 - An Act appropriating $300,000 from the Emergency Services Fund to the Department of Health, VITEMA, and the Fire Services for the purchase of equipment, professional services, and supplies necessary to provide, maintain and improve the emergency Mobile Integrative Health Care Program.
