Two men killed in St. Croix shooting

Two men are dead after a shooting on Queen Street in Frederiksted, St. Croix, according to V.I. Police.

Officers on St. Croix responded to a ShotSpotter report of gunfire at 11:48 p.m. Saturday, and arrived to find “several spent shell casings, multiple vehicles with bullet holes, and the body of a deceased male who was seated on a chair near Yolanda’s Bar,” according to police.  Next of kin identified the victim at the scene as 53-year-old Juan Rexach-Ramos.

Minutes later, 911 dispatchers told police there was a second victim who had been transported from the scene of the shooting on Queen Street, and died from his injuries at the Luis Hospital emergency room, according to police.  Next of kin identified the second victim as 28-year-old Daniym Heywood.  According to V.I. Superior Court records, Heywood was on supervised probation stemming from his arrest by warrant in February 2021, when he was charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, illegal discharge of a firearm, reckless endangerment, and related crimes.
