VI delegation meets Guyana's Agriculture Minister - discussion included plans to develop a shade house culture among farmers, pesticide & toxic chemicals monitoring authority

GEORGETOWN, Guyana – The visiting Virgin Islands (VI) delegation led by Hon Lorna G. Smith, OBE has met with Guyana’s Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha to discuss strengthening ties to support agricultural development between the two countries.

Information coming out of the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) in Guyana is that subject Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries, Dr the Hon Karl Dawson (R1), along with Director of Agriculture and Fisheries, Theodore E. James and Mr Martin Tony Alphonso, formed part of the visiting delegation that met specifically with Minister Mustapha.

The Guyana Minister was accompanied by MoA’s Director General, Madanlall Ramraj, Permanent Secretary, Delma Nedd, Registrar and Deputy Registrar of the PTCCB, Trecia David, and Suresh Amichand.

Shade house culture; chemicals monitoring authority

The discussion included plans to develop a shade house culture among farmers.

A shade house is a structure enclosed by agro nets or any other woven material to allow required sunlight, moisture and air to pass through the gaps. It creates an appropriate microclimate conducive to the plant growth. It is also referred to as shade net house or net house.
