ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Jr Minister of Culture and Tourism, Hon. Luce D. Hodge-Smith (R4) was called impromptu on a radio talk show by Rosemary Cindy Rosan co-host of “The Morning Ride Show with a Side of Politics” on ZROD 103.7 FM today Wednesday, April 10, 2024, and asked about the Territorial Dress.
Hon Hodge-Smith in answering a question about changes to the Territorial Wear said “There is a committee in place and they are not ready as yet to go public….but I am sure there are justifiable reasons, but I am not in a position to speak about it at this time.”
The Territorial Dress was passed in July of 2012 by the House of Assembly under the National Democratic Party.
At the heart of the Territorial dress, is the Virgin Islands (VI) Territorial Print which depicts unique aspects of our culture: The turtle dove, oleander, hibiscus, soursop, sugar apple and the VI’s sloop along with the islands of the VI and our name represented in the cloth.
