Residents of the Sixth District are invited to spread holiday cheer this Thursday as Representative Myron Walwyn hosts the District 6 Christmas Carol Competition.
The festive event will feature solos, duets, and group performances, promising a vibrant evening of traditional Christmas music and community spirit. The competition, scheduled for December 19, will take place on the grounds of the District 6 Office in Stone Haven starting at 7 pm. “Well, what we have coming up… is a Christmas carol competition,” Walwyn said in an interview with ZBVI. “We are encouraging solos, duets, and groups to participate in this very, very interesting and festive celebration of the Christmas season.”
Performers will compete for the grand prize of $2,000, while a separate award will go to the best-dressed group, who must showcase Christmas colours such as red, green, gold, and silver. Walwyn revealed that 10 groups have already registered to perform. “That was our aim, to be able to have ten entries, and we’ve been able to achieve that, and we’re very, very happy with that,” he noted.
The competition rules require participants in solos to reside in District 6. For duets, at least one performer must be a resident of the district, and group performances must include a majority of members from the district. Performances are limited to five minutes and will be judged on vocal performance, creativity, and presentation.
