BVI medical school now accepting applications for 2025

The BVI’s first medical school, Ponce Health Sciences University (PHSU), is now accepting applications for the fall of 2025.

Originally based in Puerto Rico, PHSU also has campuses in the United States. Applicants are required to hold a Bachelor’s degree, as the university offers a Medical Doctor (MD) degree over four years. Earlier this year, Minister of Health Vincent Wheatley highlighted ongoing negotiations to establish a medical school in the BVI. In July, representatives toured the facilities designated for the school, accompanied by BVI government officials.

While discussions about introducing medical schools in the BVI have been in progress since 2018, PHSU’s promised opening next year marks a significant milestone for the territory. An agreement to establish a medical facility was signed in 2018, receiving Cabinet approval at the time.
