Guyanese woman freed of gun & ammo charges - No Case Submission upheld for Lynette Sommersall

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Lynette Sommersall, a Guyana national living in the Virgin Islands for over 20 years, was today, April 23, 2024, acquitted of firearm and ammunition charges stemming from an incident that occurred in 2021.

Police, while on mobile patrol along Admin Drive in Road Town, Tortola during an electricity blackout on November 3, 2021, discovered a loaded black and silver 9mm gun with eight 9 mm rounds of ammunition while searching a black Chevrolet.

At the time, Sommersall was a passenger while David Cummings, a Jamaica national, was the driver.

A search was conducted of Mr Cummings but nothing illegal was found but when the search moved on to the vehicle and he was asked to witness the search, he attempted to flee and had to be restrained with handcuffs.
