Project X prison band no longer performing at Xmas in the City

The Project X band, a staple of the annual Christmas in the City event, will not perform this year, according to City Manager Janice Brathwaite-Edwards.

The event, formerly known as Christmas on DeCastro Street, has been a beloved tradition in the Virgin Islands for more than two decades.  Speaking on ZBVI Radio, Brathwaite revealed that the prison-based band has been disbanded. “Unfortunately, after the young man and his partner were released from prison, the last prison warden had issues with allowing them to come out,” she explained. “So, we have not been able to do anything with the prison, and the band is not functioning at the moment.” Brathwaite fondly recalled the band’s contributions, saying, “It used to be a lovely experience.” She added that since the release of key members, the band has not operated at the same capacity.
