Virgin Islands officials including Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. are celebrating what Government House described as a “remarkable achievement” of Virgin Islander Jeth B. Rey.
Rey was recently promoted to lieutenant general in the U.S. Army, according to a Government House statement. “This historic promotion marks LTG Rey as the second Virgin Islander in recent history to reach this distinguished rank, culminating a stellar 42-year military career filled with groundbreaking accomplishments,” Bryan said in the released statement that did not name the first individual to whom he referred.
Rey, who the statement noted achieved 17 promotions and worn 18 ranks, “is the most promoted soldier in the U.S. Army since World War II — a feat that reflects his extraordinary dedication, leadership, and service.” He previously served as director of the Network Cross-Functional Team at the Army Futures Command and will now assume the role as the principal military adviser to the Army’s chief of staff and chief information officer, where he will oversee global command, control, communications, cyber operations and networks.
