VISTS & St George's advance in secondary schools debating competition - teams will meet ESHS & BFEC in semi-final round

BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI- St George’s Secondary School and the Virgin Islands School of Technical Studies will meet the 2024 champions, Elmore Stoutt High School, and the Bregado Flax Educational Centre Secondary in the semi-final round of the 2025 Inter-Secondary School Debate Competition.

The schools advanced following the first round of the debate competition on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at the New Testament Church of God International Worship Centre’s Activity Hall in Baughers Bay.  In the first debate of the day, Cedar International School (proposition) and St George’s Secondary School (opposition) spoke on the Moot: Agricultural self-sufficiency is an unrealistic expectation for the Virgin Islands.

Miss Yasmine Sayed of the St George’s Secondary School was named Best Speaker.  Debate two was between Claudia Creque Educational Centre (proposition) and Virgin Islands School of Technical Studies (opposition) debating the Moot: Students with special educational needs should be required to take the same standardised tests as their peers.
