The officers involved in the murder investigation of Nickera Smith recently gave a chilling account of how her body was discovered in the area of Hawk’s Nest back in 2016.
Smith’s body was found on March 30, that year, roughly two months days after she went missing. Former Police Sergeant Hall gave details of the discovery in the High Court on Monday during the continuation of the trial of Ashan Westcott, who is accused of Smith’s murder.
Hall stated he was on duty with a police constable on the day in question when they arrived at Hawk’s Nest and detected a foul stench, which he later determined to be the smell of a rotting corpse. He testified that they parked nearby when they noticed the odour. Hall told the court he saw a slope which he descended, observing a blue tarpaulin, an old wheelbarrow, and an old metal drum approximately 15 to 20 feet away from the roadway where they had parked.
